The British Army: Royal Marines

This group I have based off of the Falklands campaign, 40, 42 or 45 Commando with sections of SLR, SMG, Bren, GPMG and Carl Gustav anti-tank.

The British Army: The Parachute Regiment

I've been suffering insomnia, so I decided to do some painting to relax my mind. However, here I act now making a blog post.

My Cold War British Para's come from the Matchbox set of NATO Paratroopers, which was produced about 1983. I was lucky enough to get myself two sets of these.
I have used my MAA Armies of the Falklands conflict as the basis of my painting guide.
I have also based one battalion, a section with SLRs, Smgs, Bren and a GPMG team. I will also ensure they have a Carl Gustav Anti-tank section.
Pictures to follow.

Norway in NATO, 6th Division 1985

I have been putting some stuff together of my Norwegian force. So far, I have painted up some of my infantry and have been looking for my Leopard tank and M113. I need to figures out what to do for their artillery support.

Additional units for the Norwegian units I have fielded include

6th Division
Infantry battalion modeled with ROCO mini tank figures and WW2 US Airborne

1 Leopard 1, 1 M48A5
2 M113

my force is based off of information found in the following books
(Osprey NATO Armies Today, 1987)
(Osprey Tank War-Central Front NATO vs WARSAW PACT, 1989)

Battlefront Minatures has announced that they will be putting out a new book entitled NORDIC later in 2023 so I shall be building up the force from then.

38th Parallel action

This could be a little skirmish between NKPA units and some Americans circa 1970.
The units involved will include ROK, US units. Once I sort them out, an action will take place, stay tuned

Incoming! NVA take on a US Army base camp 1967

Ian has really gotten interested in the Vietnam conflict with our figures. Tonight, on one of my few Saturday nights off, he decided to set up an NVA attack on an American camp

The American Lt. has set up his HQ in the local village headmans house.

The camp is being established as a Firebase, the infantry are occupying the area to prepare for the artillery

But the local NVA/VC units have other ideas for the area. They strike while the Americans are without their guns. Already, the main bunker has fallen to RPG fire.

Some Hue action,

images from the history of Vietnam war (Kamps, 1988, pg 105)

NVA and VC units are holding a neighborhood of Hue.

A battalion of US Marines have been tasked with trying to retake the area

A company with M60 support begins to move forward
however, the NVA/VC were well dug in and had fortified their positions. With too much heavy fire coming down, the Marines were pinned down, and having lost their radioman, were unable to call in airstrikes or artillery. Eventually, the Marines were forced to withdrawl, without having been able to inflict too many casualties on the Vietnamese, however, they in turn hit the Marines hard. Next time, they will assault with tanks.
