The Wild Geese Film, 1978

This is one of my most favorite movies. It has a very interesting moral theme about how Africa was tearing itself apart, and yet, 41 years later, there are still conflicts on that continent over the same reasons.

My impitius for buying the DVD copy was some postings on facebook which cover the cold war period. As well, I really enjoy Richard Burton, Richard Harris, Roger Moore, Hardy Kruger.
Excellent acting, a good story, and the good guys, well, get even.

The 17/21st Lancers with a Battalion of the Irish Guards attempt to hold back the Soviet attack.

this brave group of Irish troops led by Cpl Redden holds off a Soviet tank group. Eventually his unit was wounded but not before he and his team were recommended for the VC.

a lone spotter relays to the mortar and Royal Artillery where to drop rounds

transports held in reserve.

Chieftians hide in a small wood

the Abbot battery make their battlefield debut. Unfortunately, half the battery fell victim to the Carnation battery, a single Abbot attempted to counter fire but eventually fell victim

It was a hard fought engagement. The British threw everything they had at the Russians but the Soviets eventually attacked in force, destroying the British. Further up the road, a small holding force of British await a new Soviet push.
