Generic NATO infantry

Around 2001, while I was living in the Tokyo area, I was able to acquire several ROCO Minitanks kits. One of them was the Infantry pack they made.

I've painted them over the years in Nato green and based them according to the NATO units I was building.

Another set I picked up was the Preiser Railroad Minatures West German figures set which likewise I painted as I needed.

With the Preiser kit, I painted and began to base them as Argentine forces, but have decided to redo them as generic, they can go back to the Falklands later to fight my 1/72 British or they may get involved in a 15mm battles there.

Most of the NATO figures are using G3 Rifles with the MG3 in support. Only one seems to be using an M60.

I'll get them up here when I get home

Soviet attack on Fulda

My current West German force. Mostly as a
Heavy Armoured Recce

this unit. Which are an element of
New T-80s waiting in reserve
BMP-3 Scouts
Additional T-64s armed with missles

A Soviets Czechoslovakian attack has pushed against the West German and Americans near Fulda. Canadian forces and French troops are supporting.
The objective as usual is the bridge and crossroads to continue the Socialist advance.
The West Germans have thrown in reserves to assist in the defense using a squadron of M48, and M-41s
The Canadians and Americans have rushed their tanks to hold the bridge. The Soviet plan was to throw all their tanks against the infantry holding the ridge overlooking the bridge. They've been somewhat successful in holding the ridge but have yet to capture the main bridge. The secondary bridge was captured by the Czech Paras. West German anti-aircraft section took out all the Hinds, while Czech rockets pummeled the Armoured Recce battalion.
Despite the efforts of the Frech, Canadian, West German and Americans, the Soviets were able to capture the objective.
An all out push by the Motor Rifles secured the bridge while the new T-80 company took out many NATO  tanks. Next, the British

Jaguar Jagdpanzer Zug

So I've built these as Jaguar 2s with the Jaguar 1s I'll built ertzaz ones with m548 hulls

So why exactly did West Germany field these?
With the potential onslaught of massive amounts of Warsaw Pact armour, NATO, in particular West Germany needed to field as many weapons systems that could take out tanks as they could.
Seeing how successful infantry Anti-tank teams had done so well un the middle east, the West Germans took the Panzerjager they had with a 90mm gun, and replaced it with better Anti-tank weapons. Surprisingly in the upgraded West German book they actually supply the 90mm gun armed system, as a reservist option.
Once I get some time to field a game, these shall be on the board.

Iraq for Oil War

I'm surprised that I didn't do up a posting on my Iraqi force. Today, I got a Mech platoon to go with the weapons platoon and VCR Anti-tank Squadron and I've also painted up a T-62 squadron.

I have enough figures to stand in for the Iranians so all is good.

The plan for 2023 is to build up a tank and infantry force

West German Redeye squad

I got the West Germans some additional Anti-aircraft systems they can use.

I ran out of NATO green so I'll have to wait until I can get to the store for more

Royal Artillery M109 Field Battery

I got another tax refund so I decided to get some NATO kit

Now I already had a toy car battery but I'll send these over to the Iranians. I'll have to build the British one and paint it up

Built but ran out of NATO green and I'll check on my Chieftain green.

I have been able to paint these I just havent been able to take pictures yet

Luchs Spah Truup

I now have a full recce squadron with these

I'll have to build and paint them.

I have one which I got in the early 2000s.

So I can now run 2 squadrons

Fuchs APC

I now have a full troop of them with their stat card.

And after my year in the North, they got a bit damaged in transit so I'll need to repair over 2024

6th Polish Airborne division

The 6th Airborne Division of the Polish People's Army was Polands chief special forces unit.

To field this unit, I've painted 2 Hind Helicopters in Polish colours and painted troops for the unit. At present, the Assault Landing Company has

4 AKM teams

4 RPG-7 teams.

Any additional paratroopers will be air dropped onto the table.

A

7th Polish Naval Infantry Division

I'll post more on this unit

The force does consist of a squadron of PT-76 amphibious tanks 1 as an HQ, 4 as the squadron. Using PAVN cards from NAM, which when I moved to Nunavut I left behind in Nova Scotia. Duh

BTR-50 APCs

BTR-60s

 and a squadron of T-55s

Naval infantry consists of 4 RPG-7, 4 AKM of Polish Naval Infantry

4 Sections of Soviet Naval Infantry

Division requires BM-21 for artillery support

Until I build up the T-72 and BMP boxed sets for Poland, the entire Polish kits I have will become the Naval Division.

Combat Team Zulu: The Americans

This is my new American force. These will actually support my Canadian forces. And while I had not intended to get them, the new set I bought was just too good a deal to not get.

M1 Abrams Armoured Combat Team HQ

1 tank

M1 Abrams Tank Platoon

2 tanks

M60 Patton Tank Platoon

3 tanks

M3 Bradley Scout Section

2 Bradley's

Total points 41

The rest of my American force includes

HMMWV Cavalry troop: several Humvees,

(My plan is to acquire the set to flesh out the Cavalry squadron) Currently I have

1 .50 Cal armed

1 40mm grenade armed

1 TOW armed

 A Stinger launcher

With a set, this will give me 2 for each weapon.

A single M113 and an M551 Sheridan.

I'm toying with the idea of getting a Sheridan force

Now that I have an small force, I'll see about building an Allied force to support my Canadians. Or I may just have it as a small force due to casualties

T-80 Tank Battalion

So my new force consists of

T-80 Tank Battalion HQ: 1 Tank

T-80 Tank Company: 3 tanks

T-64 Tank Company: 3 tanks

BMP-3 Recon Platoon: 2 BMP-3

Total point 48.

And all I can say is WOW!!!!

The T-80 is a Monster on the battlefield! A tactical movement of 35cm, frontal armor of 20 and side of 10! This group no wonder they called it the shock group!

First action I have used it in is the Ilsan game I did up and the only way that Free World forces could defeat it was to hit it on the side or rear, or hope the artillery would take it out.

Saturday 7 May 2022

My 49th birthday present Full set

The set contains an American combat team and a Soviet T-80 Tank Battalion With a T-64 section, a BMP-3 recce section
The Americans consist of a M1 Abraham company, a Bradley recce section and an M60 section.
So my Iranians now have more tanks, my Soviets are now ready to strike again.
The Americans will bolster the Canadian force.
I was able to get this set from Lantzalot Games from Blockhouse, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia

Korea 1951 Imjin River

While this is slightly earlier than most, I've been itching to play some earlier Cold War actions. This one pits a Commonwealth force against a Communist North Korean and Chinese force.

A mixed infantry force of Argyles and Royal Ulster Rifles with tank support drive up the valley to push back the Communists

It was a near run thing for the British. The Chinese were holding firm to the hill and the T-34/85 gave the Cromwells a run for their money. Eventually with the fire of the Royal Artillery, the Communist tanks had their back broken and determined charges by the Ulsters drove them off.
