Battlefront Miniatures Team Yankee kits

I really like the kits I have gotten to expand and build up my Cold War force.
One thing I have noted is the spare parts you get.
Now, I'm slowly putting together the full kits, and have hulls and turret bits which I can make into half built kits. So what does one do?
I am going to see if I can scratch build additional vehicles for my forces using cam netting or flocking to hide the fact that the models may lack certain bits.
Once spring comes I shall be modelling out in my garage and gaming more.
The Soviets are regrouping.
They shall be getting BMP-1 and BMP-2,
T-72s, and 2 Hind 24 gunships.

And over time I have built the collection of NATO/Warsaw Pact divisions to between basic levels to fully flegged divisions according to the diagrams listed in the country books.

Major airlift for all nations in Team Yankee

So I had a day off this week and went down to the shop about an hour from my home and bought a large amount of Team Yankee kits.
The British got 2 sets, a Scorpion/Scimitar kit which I have built up to make a New Zealand Scorpion section. As well, a Tracked Rapier troop of 4 units.
Canadian Lynx first coat of paint

Spartans first coat of paint

my guide to my British force.

The Canadians were the big winners getting a set of 5 M113s, a Lynx Recce troop of 2 vehicles, a platoon of infantry, a troop of 3 more Leopards and an ADATS anti-aircraft system.
Now not listed in the game but I have a flight of 2 CF-18s
The Australians will get 2 of the  M113  carriers with the ACV turrets
oh and they also got a 4 section jeep of wombats
The French gained a section of AMX 10P IFVs and AMX 10 RC armored cars.
The West Germans gain a flight of PAH Anti-tank Helicopters.

The Warsaw Pact also did well gaining 9 T-72s and 2 Hind Gunships as well as a BMP 1 set.

British Army: 6th Airborne Brigade in Team Yankee

The usual British battalion has a mixture of GPMGs, SLRs and Carl Gustavs
however in the 1980s the 1st Battalion Gordon Highlanders was attached to the 6th Airborne Brigade armed with Milan Anti-tank missles.
The GPMGs, SLRs but the Milans replaced the Carl Gs.
The other battalion in the 6th Airborne Brigade is the  2nd Battalion The Light Infantry
Having bought a new set of British Infantry and Milan units, I should be able to field these units. I just need to add some Helicopters in the future.

Winter of '79

one of the other side projects i've been working on is the idea of the Winter of '79 game which I have been following over the years. Since I have been able to upgrade my BAOR units, I now have some units and kit which could make for some interesting games, using the Team Yankee rules.
I've also got some basic armed civilians and some interesting characters who could just very well be a pain in Thatcher's backside. Plus some Late War British Tommies I'm painting up in Olive to serve in the dying days of Empire
and whose not to say Northern Ireland won't kick off eh?
And amazingly enough when I stopped by my old favorite hobby shop in Halifax, I found some railroad figures who appear to be hunting so I now have a set of figures who could be armed civilians.
The armed civilians have an assortment of rifles and shotguns.
The veterans are armed with an assortment of WW2 weapons and modern mgs.
As I get them based, I will post the pics.
Also with the increase of kits for my Team Yankee forces, there is an abundance of kit which can be used as weapons by factions in Winter of '79.
And if currently events in the UK are any indication, fantasy may become reality
So one of the insurgents groups could be armed with wombats, and a Saladin and Humber pig APCs
As of September 2020, I'm still going to be getting some actions together on this.

MI-24 Hind Assault Landing Company

Right, Ive blogged about my airborne force of Soviets but I haven't actually organised them very well. By far, this is the largest amount of Soviet Infantry I have baring my Motorised Rifles I bought last fall.

Team Yankee in their 15th Guards Tank Division includes the 155th Helicopter Regiment. I need to get some helicopters but the Air Assault troops I have plenty, somewhere around 200 figures.
Easily I can field 6 AK-74 teams with RPG-18s with 6 RPG-7 teams.
One of the box tops I now have on display in my garage/game room.
I have also been able to add a section of Hind helicopters. I will be painting and building these up over the next few months.

BM-21 Hail Rocket Launcher.

The BM-21 Hail is a descendant of the Katyisha rocket system of WW2.
In Team Yankee, the system delivers a SLAVO
It has a range of 240cm on the table so it's a potent system.
At the moment I only have one system and a Katyusha which I will pair when the Soviets and Poles fight together.
Pictures will naturally follow when I remember to do so.
The one launcher that I have in 1/72 was damaged in transit from Japan and in storage from 2003. Currently it's missing the truck cabin roof and its wheels seem to like to come off.
Hence why no picture at the moment
However I have ordered a set online to arm my Soviets and Polish Naval infantry
I've started to paint them up
Soviet, East German and Polish Hails

896th Soviet Anti-aircraft Missile Regiment

One of the kits I picked up in Japan around 2002 was a Russian AA tank. I believe that it's the next generation vehicle after the Shilka.
However the Shilka utilizing a quad 23mm AA gun which when halted has an ROF of 6 but has an ROF of 4 when moving. I have the kit, just needs to be built and painted.

The system I have, the Tunguska is a tank with twin 23mm guns but also has twin mounts of SAM in sets of 4.
It's like a Shilka and an SA-13 Gopher mated.
The Regiment I am fielding consists of:
1 platoon  SA-13 Gophers
1 platoon SA-8 Gecko
1 platoon ZSU-23-4 Shilka
The Gaskin platoon has been passed over to the East Germans

Once I fix up the vehicle, and when I get a shot of it I will post it up.
Oh, and Happy 2019.
